L.T.Y.C. Junior Racing Team practices Monday through Friday afternoons. Please check the calendar page for updates. Sailors age 13-18 years old who have completed the first three ranks of seamanship in the Little Traverse Sailors program are strongly encouraged to join the race team [application]. Racing is one of the fastest ways to improve sailing skills, bringing a new level of excitment to sailing.

Race Team Director is Tom Orlow who is also Program Director for LTS. Head Race Team coach is Mallory Brown. Mallory is from Grosse Pointe Farms, MI currently a student at Boston College and a member of their Sailing Team. She has sailed competitively for ten years. This past year she crewed on tThe winning team at the Timme Angsten Regatta in Chicago. Mallory has extensive, impressive racing credentials.

John Ramer is from Harbor Springs and also currently a student at Boston College. He is a member of the BC ski team and Sailing Team. John has more big boat experience having raced extensively on a Mumm 30, NM, Thomas 35, J 105 and Beneteau 36.7 including the Chicago Mac.

The sailboats used are LTYC owned Club 420s. There is also a possibility of training and racing in Lasers. 420s are used by most high school and college competitive sailing teams and are raced all over the country and the world. These boats really are fast and plane fairly easily. Get ready to have a lot of fun.

The team will travel to local regattas and will host a regatta this summer. We are looking for volunteers for travel assistance, preparations for hosting the summer regatta, and fundraising. Please contact Tom for more information or to volunteer.

Practices will be held across from Little Traverse Yacht Club at 343 East Bay Street, Harbor Springs, MI 49740.
